Introducing Black Diamond Accordions
« on: May 30, 2013, 18:02:07 PM »
For those of you who haven't heard of Black Diamond Accordions, we are Greg and Juliet (partners in life as well as in accordions!), we live on Britain's most easterly inhabited island, beautiful Mersea Island in Essex, and we launched our accordions in 2011, at the Accordions International Festival at Hemsby.

Inspired by Phil Cunningham's TV programme 'The World Accordion to Phil', early in 2011 Greg went to China to visit the oldest-established accordion factory there, and struck a deal with them to manufacture a range of piano and button accordions to our own exacting specifications, using Cagnoni reeds from Italy. The combination of experience Chinese craftsmanship and Cagnoni reeds allows us to offer great sounding instruments at highly affordable prices. (The full story and photos of Greg's adventures in China are on our blog http://blackdiamondaccordions.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/world-accordion-to-greg.html )

Why the name?  Well, we have a beautiful 51-year-old racing yacht named Black Diamond (photos here: http://blackdiamondaccordions.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/sailing-round-isle-of-wight-with.html ). When deciding on the design of our accordions, we were naturally drawn to shiny black instruments. With diamond-shaped grilles. So deciding what to call them wasn't very difficult!

We believe that ours is the only range of musical instruments to be named after a boat - but if you know different we'd be delighted to hear from you!

You can see the full range of our accordions and melodeons here: http://www.blackdiamondaccordions.com/accordion-and-melodeon-shop/ . We offer an 'on approval' service for anyone who would like to try one of our instruments at home for a week. If you're interested, please get in touch (contact details below).

As you'll see from our other recent post on this forum, our accordions are also now available to try and buy at Atticus Accordions in Lancaster - one of only two retailer who sell our instruments (the other being the excellent Merlin Music in Melrose, Scotland).

Our website and online shop is at www.blackdiamondaccordions.com

We post news and all kinds of accordion-related photos, joke and videos on our blog at http://blackdiamondaccordions.blogspot.co.uk/

We have a lively Facebook presence (www.facebook.com/BlackDiamondAccordions ) which is by no means restricted to blowing our own trumpet - we're just as interested in promoting the popularity of accordions in general, in every musical genre - so do 'like' our page for daily accordion-related news, links, photos and 'funnies'.

That's all for now, but please watch this space for Black Diamond news from time to time.  And feel free to get in touch with us by any of the above methods if there's anything at all you'd like to know - we'll be very pleased to hear from you, and do whatever we can to help.  :)
